The Situation
Nice Rice began as a response to a government-sanctioned monopoly that limited how Riverina rice growers could sell and export their product. The system restricted competition, reduced choice for farmers, and disconnected consumers from locally grown Australian rice.
The founders of A.I. LAMB, Mirza and Steve, saw an opportunity to challenge the status quo. With backgrounds across mining, technology, and regulated industries, they set out to give Riverina growers a fairer go, prove Australian rice could compete on quality, and build a challenger brand that celebrated provenance and regional pride.
What started as a pub conversation needed to become a legitimate business, capable of influencing policy, building a supply chain from scratch, and competing with established players.
The Solution
A.I. LAMB partnered with Nice Rice from inception to lead the validation, brand development, supply chain build, and policy advocacy required to turn a pub conversation into a viable challenger FMCG business. Working hands-on with growers, regulators, and commercial partners, we helped define the strategy, build the brand and infrastructure, secure retail distribution, and navigate the regulatory change needed to unlock the market, laying the foundations for long-term scale across:
-
Concept validation and market feasibility
-
Grower engagement and company formation
-
Brand creation and packaging design
-
End-to-end supply chain and milling infrastructure
-
Retail distribution and market entry
-
Policy advocacy and deregulation leadership

“Our team at A.I. LAMB didn’t just advise Nice Rice; we rolled up our sleeves and built it alongside the growers. From the deregulation submission through to the brand and website, the work has been deeply hands-on. Without that support, Nice Rice would still be an idea.”
The Outcome
Nice Rice evolved from an idea into a nationally distributed Australian food brand, while playing a key role in ending the government-sanctioned export monopoly that had constrained Riverina growers for decades.
By investing in premium milling equipment, building its own Riverina-based facility, and establishing a network of local growers, Nice Rice delivered a fresher, higher-quality product to market. From July 2025, deregulation enabled growers to trade freely, proving that a challenger brand backed by industry expertise and community focus can influence policy, build infrastructure, and compete at scale.
